What is EU conversion on FCA/Stellantis vehicles?

In workshop terms, EU conversion usually means changing market-related configuration so the vehicle behaves like an EU-spec build where supported: regional menus, units, infotainment region settings, and certain lighting/driver-assistance feature flags stored in the PROXI configuration.

What is PROXI configuration?

PROXI configuration is a byte/bit-based configuration map used on many FCA/Stellantis platforms (typically managed by the BCM) to describe vehicle options and feature flags that multiple modules rely on.

Do I always need to run PROXI alignment after EU conversion?

Not always. Whether a PROXI alignment step is required depends on the platform, the write procedure, and what changed. If modules detect a configuration mismatch, alignment is required. If the vehicle remains logically synchronized after flashing, alignment may not be triggered.

Does FCA PROXI Tool connect to the car or write to ECUs?

No. FCA PROXI Tool is a desktop configuration editor, but it requires an internet connection for authorization and cloud-based CRC/checksum calculations. It works with exported configuration data (for example, CDA/PROXI buffers) and produces an integrity-valid output file. Reading/writing to the vehicle is performed using diagnostic tools and procedures.

Why is CRC recalculation important when editing PROXI data?

PROXI/CDA buffers are typically integrity-protected. If bytes/bits are modified without recalculating the correct checksum, the data can be rejected or interpreted unpredictably. A CRC-safe editor keeps the output consistent after changes.

What kinds of EU conversion changes are commonly configuration-based?

Common configuration-based items include regional menus and units, infotainment market flags, and some lighting/driver-assistance feature flags. Some items still require hardware changes or calibration depending on the vehicle and regulations.
